berries

we did it...we finally did it! we planted our berries...for a few years, paul and i have talked about growing our own berries. i have wanted to get tennessee quality berries badly, but i know with our rocks/little bit of dirt and our dry air, it isn't a possibility (makes me sad). paul bought me a bunch of barrels last year in preparation and this spring, we got the rocks and filled them with soil. paul and jack watched while i planted our berries. we planted 4 raspberries, 2 blackberries, 3 strawberries and 2 blueberries. i can't wait for the desserts, drinks and berries i get to make/eat. it feels so good to be a little more self reliant.

I showed Scott your blog immediately...we are so proud of you guys and you look like a country gal with all your barrels! You will love all your berries with Jack helping you care for them; he'll be picking them in no time! Give Paul a hug for buying you those barrels and making his country wife so happy :) Tip from Scott: Scott says do not use lime on the blueberries and to mulch them with pine needles as they love acid.

I am looking forward to them too :) They look awfully nice and tidy in your yard. Good job!
